The Chart Reading Workshop is the seat Focus Helix Academy keeps for people who want to say, out loud, what a bar did. Twelve chairs, printed pages, and Malai Chanthara at the head of the table.

The room

She marked daily bars for a family office on Silom from 2005 until 2012, then opened this room in 2013. She still leads every evening of the four-week workshop.

He joined in 2017 to run the Saturday Bar Clinic. On workshop Thursdays he clips the volume sheets and keeps the second copy when a print is faint.

What the four weeks put on the table

The chart pack is historical. Each window is a finished month, printed large, with the newspaper headline left off the sheet. Tuesday of the first week is only the bar: open, high, low, close, spoken before a line is allowed. Swings come in the second week. Volume columns come in the third. The last Thursday you read one page to the room and Malai answers in pencil.

The seat is 19,500 THB, of which 4,500 THB holds the chair. Dates, the paper you will receive, and how the chairs are set are written on the reading table page.

I arrived wanting a method I could apply the same night. Malai spent the first Tuesday refusing every line. By the third week I could point at a swing without apologising for it. I still think eight evenings is a lot of Phaya Thai traffic for someone coming from Bang Na.
